When I mention systems, you might think of automations, standard operating procedures, leveraging what you do, or light touch outsourcing. These are important, but a crucial piece is often overlooked: how you see yourself grows your business.

It’s about running a business rather than doing admin tasks; feeling comfortable creating space without filling it with more tasks. Becoming the captain of your ship, rather than running up and down the rigging adjusting the sails.

If you’ve tried systems before and felt they didn’t work for you, it may be you need to shift how you perceive yourself. In this video, I’ll share how this can show up, and a really useful tool to step into that new way of thinking.

Here’s the transcription from the video:

When I talk about systems you might be picturing automations, or SOPs – standard operating procedures. You might be picturing light touch outsourcing, having a virtual assistant who supports you.

That’s part of the picture, the ‘how to’ of having your business run more smoothly around you – the strategy, automations, systems for tasks and light touch outsourcing – but the bit that’s not talked about enough, is shifting WHO you are to have and allow those systems.

➡️ Being comfortable in creating more space, so it doesn’t become a vacuum that’s filled with other tasks

➡️ How you think, what you prioritize.

➡️ Stepping into being the captain of the ship, rather than running around the rigging putting sails up and down.

It’s the difference between putting a few things in place, but then stopping. Or they niggle you so you keep poking at them. Or you forget you even have the systems in place at all and fall back into doing things manually, or taking more back onto your plate.

The alternative is letting these systems – the strategy, automations, systems for tasks and light touch outsourcing – be the thing you trust and lean on in your business. Having your attention open for more ways to refine what you do, take more off your plate so you can show up and do the work that you shine at, support more people and increase your sales.

The shift is in how you see yourself.

If you’ve tried systems in the past and it hasn’t worked for you – it’s likely this; using systems and tech that you enjoy, that are simple for you to use – and seeing yourself as the person who runs your business, rather than doing all-the-things.

If systems have felt forced, it’s about softening. It’s allowing. It’s trusting.

When we try to make changes from a force place, there’s a tautness to the energy, a tension, a brittleness. When we soften, the push-pull energy dissolves & it’s so much easier.

So here’s what I’d love you to sit with.

When I say, you can have your business run around you more, have the automations and systems in place to support you, have people supporting you – in alignment with your budget – where you feel safe. Where you can show up and do what you’re best at, grow your business, support more people, and it’s safe to do that. What comes to mind? Is there a niggle, a resistance, a thought that says ‘that sounds great, but I can’t do that because…’

Notice that thought. That’s your growth edge.

That thought can definitely change to something that’s more supportive to you, that also feels in alignment and true for you.

A great way to do this is to use a thought ladder or thought bridge, a concept from Kara Loewentheil – and I’ll tag her podcast below, where if your current thought is:

I can’t do that because my business isn’t making enough money yet

You’re not going to leap to:

I can absolutely have my business running around me, with support, no problem

You can say the words but your subconscious is just going to dismiss it as something that’s not viable for you.

The thought bridge is to find the next supportive thought you can get on board with, and then the next one. So in this case it might be:

With my budget, I know I can still do X and open up some more time for me

Then it might be,

Now I can afford [$50 / $100 / $500] a month, I’m open to how I can make the most of that, whether it’s support, tech, or setting up automations, to really shift how my business grows & has impact

If you’d like support to make these shifts in your business, the strategy, systems, coaching and accountability, this is what I help my 1:1 clients with. I invite you to check it out – and if you get a nudge that it might be exactly what you need – book a clarity call with me. We can talk about those thoughts and where they might evolve for you.

Thanks for watching, see you next time!

Ever feel like you don’t have enough time to be more productive in your business? That you’d be further ahead if only you could fit more into your day?

While we get things done within this measure of “time”, what’s often missing is to consider your energy. In this video, I’ll show you why your energy is more potent than your time, and how to work with that to get more of the important work done.

Here’s the transcription:

When we think about time in our business we often feel we don’t have enough of it; how often have you said to yourself ‘I just don’t have enough time – I’d like to do [this thing] but don’t have capacity for it’.

How often have you felt that you would be further ahead if only had more time, if only you could fit more in a day, if only you didn’t have other commitments that need your time within a day or within a week?

And of course that’s true to an extent. We get things done within this measure called time.

However the element that’s often missing is to consider your energy.

How draining or lifting something is for your energy makes a massive difference to how much you get done, to how you feel about the work you’re doing, and to the outcomes of that work.

When you’re doing tasks that really drain you, that feel like wading through treacle and exhausting; they can feel like they take you forever to do something that should be really simple.

Using a Time Diary

One of the exercises I’ll sometimes use with clients is to do a time diary.

This is really useful when you’re trying to work out where the next place is to free up space & time for yourself, either through releasing tasks you don’t need to do at all, identifying the ones take longer because you find them more challenging, or where could you leverage your time or use automations and systems.

What we do is look at not only how long does the thing take, but how do you feel doing that thing? Does it fly by, does it feel actually quite soothing to do some admin tasks, or does it feel gnarly and difficult to do?

Something that can surprise people is that tasks that feel quite gnarly might only take 15 minutes to do, but they have felt so, so much longer; it’s felt like you’ve been doing that task for for 40 minutes

And the reason that’s important is that it has a resonating, rippling impact on how you feel about the work you are doing, the decisions you take & what you actually get done.

When you are doing something gnarly, all kinds of things come up in your brain; stories like ‘I’m not good at this thing’, ‘I should be faster’, ‘I’m really frustrated’.

And of course when we’re telling ourselves those stories in our head, we’re lowering our energy, our vibration, we’re going into a lower energy state.

It’s so much more difficult to do the deeper work that’s important to how you show up in this world when you feel deflated.

Noticing Your Energy

Many people look at how to save time in their business – but the most important thing is actually your energy.

If you’ve looked at how to streamline your business, make it more efficient, enable it to grow and it’s never quite worked for you, this is a key element to shifting things.

To create your best work, it’s being in flow, in higher energy. Not necessarily energetic / frenzied – this can be soft – but vibrant, aligned, alive.

You want to spend as much time as possible in that place, and reduce the tasks that drain you; to create your business strategy, systems, and support around that.

Here’s how to work with this. The first step is to notice 2 things;

how you spend your time,

and what lifts or drains your energy

Pay attention to the tasks you do today or this week, and look out for those energy drains. Identify them, name them. See them. That’s the first step to shifting them.

If you’d like support to make those shifts in your business, identifying what to change and putting in the strategy & systems with coaching and accountability, this is what I help my coaching clients with. I invite you to check it out – and if you get a nudge that it might be exactly what you need – book a clarity call with me.

Thanks for watching, see you next time!
