How You See Yourself Grows Your Business: Systems + Mindset Shifts

When I mention systems, you might think of automations, standard operating procedures, leveraging what you do, or light touch outsourcing. These are important, but a crucial piece is often overlooked: how you see yourself grows your business.

It’s about running a business rather than doing admin tasks; feeling comfortable creating space without filling it with more tasks. Becoming the captain of your ship, rather than running up and down the rigging adjusting the sails.

If you’ve tried systems before and felt they didn’t work for you, it may be you need to shift how you perceive yourself. In this video, I’ll share how this can show up, and a really useful tool to step into that new way of thinking.

Here’s the transcription from the video:

When I talk about systems you might be picturing automations, or SOPs – standard operating procedures. You might be picturing light touch outsourcing, having a virtual assistant who supports you.

That’s part of the picture, the ‘how to’ of having your business run more smoothly around you – the strategy, automations, systems for tasks and light touch outsourcing – but the bit that’s not talked about enough, is shifting WHO you are to have and allow those systems.

➡️ Being comfortable in creating more space, so it doesn’t become a vacuum that’s filled with other tasks

➡️ How you think, what you prioritize.

➡️ Stepping into being the captain of the ship, rather than running around the rigging putting sails up and down.

It’s the difference between putting a few things in place, but then stopping. Or they niggle you so you keep poking at them. Or you forget you even have the systems in place at all and fall back into doing things manually, or taking more back onto your plate.

The alternative is letting these systems – the strategy, automations, systems for tasks and light touch outsourcing – be the thing you trust and lean on in your business. Having your attention open for more ways to refine what you do, take more off your plate so you can show up and do the work that you shine at, support more people and increase your sales.

The shift is in how you see yourself.

If you’ve tried systems in the past and it hasn’t worked for you – it’s likely this; using systems and tech that you enjoy, that are simple for you to use – and seeing yourself as the person who runs your business, rather than doing all-the-things.

If systems have felt forced, it’s about softening. It’s allowing. It’s trusting.

When we try to make changes from a force place, there’s a tautness to the energy, a tension, a brittleness. When we soften, the push-pull energy dissolves & it’s so much easier.

So here’s what I’d love you to sit with.

When I say, you can have your business run around you more, have the automations and systems in place to support you, have people supporting you – in alignment with your budget – where you feel safe. Where you can show up and do what you’re best at, grow your business, support more people, and it’s safe to do that. What comes to mind? Is there a niggle, a resistance, a thought that says ‘that sounds great, but I can’t do that because…’

Notice that thought. That’s your growth edge.

That thought can definitely change to something that’s more supportive to you, that also feels in alignment and true for you.

A great way to do this is to use a thought ladder or thought bridge, a concept from Kara Loewentheil – and I’ll tag her podcast below, where if your current thought is:

I can’t do that because my business isn’t making enough money yet

You’re not going to leap to:

I can absolutely have my business running around me, with support, no problem

You can say the words but your subconscious is just going to dismiss it as something that’s not viable for you.

The thought bridge is to find the next supportive thought you can get on board with, and then the next one. So in this case it might be:

With my budget, I know I can still do X and open up some more time for me

Then it might be,

Now I can afford [$50 / $100 / $500] a month, I’m open to how I can make the most of that, whether it’s support, tech, or setting up automations, to really shift how my business grows & has impact

If you’d like support to make these shifts in your business, the strategy, systems, coaching and accountability, this is what I help my 1:1 clients with. I invite you to check it out – and if you get a nudge that it might be exactly what you need – book a clarity call with me. We can talk about those thoughts and where they might evolve for you.

Thanks for watching, see you next time!
