Stuck In Business? Is It A Sales Or Systems Issue? (How To Tell)

Feeling stuck in your business and trying to work out how to grow your sales? In this video I share why it might not be a sales issue; it might be a systems issue (and how to work out your next steps).

By focusing on the right systems, you can transform how your business runs – and how you feel about it. We’ll dive into how to recharge things when you feel stuck, and how systems can support the fear of visibility in business.

Here’s the transcription:

If you feel your business should be further ahead already, that thought can weigh you down so much.

I often hear this when clients come to me, they’ve been in business for a while, and things are o-kay, but it’s a struggle. It feels precarious. They look around at other people on social media and think ‘they’ve got their stuff together, I’m behind’.

It creates business guilt, business shame. When you feel like that you feel weighed down.

And from that deflated energy you’ll take different decisions around your business, you’ll look for comfort – for admin tasks that are soothing, you may not be as visible, you might not see opportunities that would have excited & sparkled in you if your energy was in a higher place.

And so, with that deflated energy – the business guilt, the ‘I’m behind’ thoughts –  it can become a perpetuating cycle. You feel behind, you feel low, you take different actions & your business doesn’t get the traction or the lift you really desire it to.

The reframe I’d like to share is that if your business is making money, if you’ve validated what you do, people do buy, you get people results, you have people who buy from you again and again – then that part is working. We can always iterate and improve, but you know your business concept works.

So it’s about finding more people, letting them know about your work and the impact it can have for them, and growing what your business can handle, in a way that very much holds the soul of your business, the experience you want people to have – and is fun for you to run.

That’s systems.

That might sound a little dry… I’m on mission for systems to feel soft and supportive rather than corporate and dull!

But that’s having your business run more around you, than you being bogged down in tasks; that’s you spending more your time in your genius zone, doing the deeper work that lights you up and creates impact for other people.

And that’s why I say, you very likely don’t have a sales issue, you have a systems issue.

Because – if you’ve identified that you want your business to be further ahead already – what’s stopping you from sharing more, and enabling your business to support more people?

It’s usually one of two things; feel which resonates more for you…

  • You feel bogged down in tasks, you love the idea of having more systems in place; it’s knowing what’s possible, exactly how to set them up quickly, and having the capacity to do that. Once that’s in place, you can’t wait to sell more.
  • Or, it’s that there’s a fear of visibility in your business, your key challenge is getting the word out there; that feels uncomfortable, and you find refuge in the day-to-day tasks. They sooth.

Systems – and by systems I’m talking about the strategy behind your business flows, automations, light touch outsourcing and systems for tasks – they tackle both of those; they create the space to do the sales work to grow and, if this is coming up for you, they create the space for you to address that fear of visibility and find ways to share that feel safe for you.

And systems can help with that too! I’ll talk more about that in another video.

➡️ This looks like creating more time and thinking space for you to show up in your highest energy and excitement and ideas, that translate to results for your customers, and more sales

➡️ It’s leveraging your sales with systems, so you’re automating more of their experience – still very much with the soul of business present – and automatically giving them opportunities to work with you.

➡️ And it’s what gives you the capacity to scale. If you think of your ideal turnover or ideal number of clients or customers you want, could your business currently cope with that?

If that’s a no, it’s no wonder you’re not selling more, you want people to have a great experience working with you, and if there’s hesitation around that, it will subtly hold you back from selling.

So here’s what I recommend; just pay attention to how you feel about sales work, growth work when I ask this question. What – in a very real way – is stopping you from growing?

  • Is it lack of time?
  • Is it fear of visibility?
  • Is it feeling your business can’t cope with the extra growth?
  • Is it a mix of these, or something else?

Knowing what it is will give you a steer on what to work on.

And systems work isn’t a massive project that you need to set weeks aside for; it can be stacking up smaller tasks that compound to have an incredible impact in your business.

If this is resonating with you and you’d like my support there’s a number of ways I can help you. From courses to deeper one-to-one coaching where I’ll get right into your business with you.
